Learning Disabilities Support Worker

We are a family seeking support workers for our two boys:

  • 10 yrs old son (asd (non-verbal), adhd, challenging behaviour & learning disabilities

  • 8,5 yrs old son with asd

The boys have an active lifestyle and enjoy: swimming, cycling, horse riding, messy-play trampolining, indoor rock-wall climbing & shopping amongst others. The role involves promoting their well-being and a healthy lifestyle through appropriately stimulating activities such as:

  • access to the wider community

  • Providing support with personal care needs as outlined in their care plan

  • There will be a need to travel out of borough for family and friend visits (out of borough travel expenses will be compensated). 

What is required?

  • experience of working with children with asd in the community or school setting.

  • knowledge of PECS, intensive interaction and Makaton

  • knowledge and experience of challenging behaviour management and implementing Positive Behaviour Support Plans 

  • Team TEACH training desirable 

  • good verbal and written communication skills

  • multidisciplinary team meeting attendance and participation

  • knowledge of safeguarding 

  • you must be an energetic individual willing to partake in activities such as climbing, trampolining and swimming etc.

  • Valid enhanced DBS (one can be applied for if you do not currently have it)

  • Driving licence and car preferred but not essential 

  • Understanding of user led and person-centred interventions.

  • £12.03/hr

  • Flexible working hours minimum four hours per shift preferable.

  • Support and supervision by CAMHS an independent behavioural specialist

  • Role specific training as appropriate

  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working

  • There is also an opportunity to be part of a person-centred pilot programme which aims to make one of the mainstream services provided by one of the local leisure centres more inclusive.
